Mountain biodiversity indicators
Effective indicators of mountain biodiversity and ecosystems status and trends are crucial for supporting progress towards biodiversity and sustainable development agendas such as the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework from the Convention for Biological Diversity. Adopting indicators that promote mountain biodiversity conservation will contribute to realizing the CBD’s vision of “Living in Harmony with Nature” by 2050 and strengthen the coherence among international frameworks and science/evidence-based policy-making. Currently, mountains are included in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 and 15.
